Will County Inks Radio System Agreement with City of Joliet
The committee unanimously approved Resolution 26-4287, authorizing a 10-year Intergovernmental Agreement with the City of Joliet to utilize the county’s 800 MHz radio system. Under the terms of the agreement, Joliet will be responsible for purchasing compatible equipment and programming its radios to Will County’s specifications. The county will provide Joliet with access to shared talk groups and one private talk group at no monthly cost, ensuring seamless interoperability for daily operable communications and mutual aid disasters.

County Partners with Aurora to Expand Electronics Recycling
To help manage the growing demand for electronic waste disposal, the committee unanimously approved Resolution 26-4430. The Intergovernmental Agreement allows the City of Aurora to utilize a portion of Will County’s excess capacity allotment under the state’s Consumer Electronics Recycling Act (CERA). By leveraging Will County’s manufacturer funding assignment, Aurora will be able to host up to three one-day residential electronics collection events. To control weight limits, the events will be strictly capped at three televisions per vehicle.

Constellation Energy Rep Appointed to Workforce Board
The committee voted to approve County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant’s appointment of Jackie Jiskra to the Workforce Investment Board of Will County. Jiskra, representing Constellation Energy in the private sector, will serve a term expiring September 30, 2028. The Workforce Board is a business-led policy body mandated by federal law to function as a convener between the private sector, educational institutions, and local government to expand job training and employment opportunities.

Public Health Chair Pushes for Animal Control HVAC Upgrades
During committee reports, Public Health and Safety Chair Daniel J. Butler reiterated his department’s urgent request to install an air handling unit at the county’s Animal Control facility. Butler noted that the current building was originally designed as an office space, not an animal shelter, and suffers from severely inadequate ventilation. “There are quite a few animals in there and they need better ventilation,” Butler urged the committee. “I don’t think it’s a huge expenditure, but if it comes before the board, I hope everybody will recognize that and understand the need for it.”
